The New Zealand Combined Choir and Orchestra was registered as a charity in 2000. It meets at Teapot Residential Centre for its Annual Summer School of Music in January. The first four schools (2001–2004) were directed by Sir David Willcocks CBE MC.

Works performed included:
• Bach:        Magnificat
• Handel:    Coronation Anthems
• Haydn:    The Nelson Mass and The Mass in Time of War
• Mozart:    Requiem
• Parry:       Blest Pair of Sirens
• Rossini:     Petite Messe Solennelle
• Rutter:      Magnificat
• Vaugham Williams: Five Folk-Song Arrangements
• Mike Brewer (Conductor of the British National Youth Choir) directed the 2005 summer school:
• Karl Jenkins:  The Armed Man
• Constant Lambert: Rio Grande

Sir David returned in 2006 and 2007 with the following repertoire:
• Bach:   Mass in B minor
• Brahms:   Requiem
• Handel:   O Praise the Lord with one consent

These works were sung first in Nelson and afterwards in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Christchurch.

Ebbe Munk (Conductor of the Royal Chapel Choir in Copenhagen) took over in 2008 with a splendid selection of music from the Danish and Russian repertoire and in 2009 Mike Brewer and Ebbe Munk worked together on a combined repertoire of Danish and English music as well as several popular items by New Zealand composers.

The tenth anniversary (2010) saw the return of Haydn’s Nelson Mass and a new work entitled A Great and Glorious Victory by Jonathan Willcocks who also conducted this work and directed the summer school.

In 2011 there was an injection of new blood into the musical directorship with Brian Kay, formerly a member of the King’s Singers, taking over.  We sang:
• Duruflé    Requiem
• Gounod    Mass

to great acclaim with Paul Tarling (organ) and Bill Buck (grand piano) in Nelson Cathedral.

By popular demand, because of his superb musicianship, Ebbe Munk will direct the Nelson Summer School in 2014.
